Congenital muscular dystrophies (CMD) constitute a heterogeneous group of rare genetic
muscle disorders, often but not exclusively inherited in an autosomal recessive fashion [1].
Over the past decade, our understanding of their molecular basis has expanded greatly [2],
with close to 20 genes known to be involved to date. The corresponding proteins can be
